I have had vitiligo since 1998 and occasionally it is a struggle dealing with the disease even though in general, people have always been nice and probably try their best not to point it out.
Vitiligo doesn’t exactly ruin your health but it changes your appearance to such an extent that your whole life can change. A classic example is Michael Jackson. To this day, many assholes believe he had a problem dealing with his race and that is why he simply decided to turn white. (Are you one of those assholes??) He had vitiligo which turned him partially white and then later he had no choice but to either be a black man with ugly white patches all over his body or turn white and deal with the media and the stupidity of the people. Both options were pretty bad and he decided to go with the one where he looked less ugly.
I have taken all kinds of treatments for vitiligo. One advantage of this disease is that it makes you approachable to people and strangers. Since I am not a very social person myself, it comes in handy at times with random stangers telling me about their distant relatives getting fully cured by holy water, homeopathy, photo film water, standing on aloe vera leaves (yes some one suggested this), a doctor living 1000km away,Unani medicines and so on and so forth. I tried the regular medicine which normal and scientific dermatologists suggested. It proved to be good but then we started thinking of alternate medicine so I tried homeopathy, miracle worker, and holy water. So far everything had proved to be disappointing. I had become apathetic towards the condition, resigned to the fate.
This year, around April, I started applying this cream which I used to apply to my white patches in the 1990′s. It’s called “clobet” and contains some salt and if you can find a substitute, then that is as good. (I use “lobet” these days). Clobet always worked on my facial patches and if I hadn’t become apathetic towards my condition I would have started applying it a long time back. But even now, I didn’t apply it regularly. I applied it whenever I felt like and some times I did it only once a week. And then on 20th May, I left for Europe and I did not carry that cream with me there.
I came back on 6th of June and my face is 50% more brown. Miracles started to happen in Europe and I am not sure what was responsible for it. Then I started noticing more changes. The back of my palm is now struggling with black patches, my elbow is showing improvement, my ears are turning brown. I am struggling to find out how this is happening but it is happening alright.
So far I have no theory as to what really happened in Europe. Was it the exposure to the sun? I do not know. It could well be that since Europe is a cool place and you can easily hang out in the sun.
Was it the clean food and water in Europe? If yes, then how are my white patches still showing signs of improvement now that I am back in Delhi?
Was it clobet? Then how are my elbows and ears showing improvement? I dont remember applying it there! (But this is the most likely explanation)
Whatever it is, I am no longer apathetic to this condition and have decided to declare war against it. I am now going to formulate a strategy. It’s a full scale war (MAKE NO MISTAKE). I am gonna kill the bastard.
Here are some pictures of my face taken 10 months back, month and a half back and today.
